Words of Wisdom

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let It Be was the Beatles final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band. McCartney said he had the idea of Let It Be after he had a dream about his mother (who died of cancer when he was fourteen) during the tense period when the Beatles were recording ‘The White Album’. His mother had told him, "It will be alright, just let it be."

This song’s lyrics have given me great comfort over the years. When I feel overwhelmed, sad or anxious about a situation I listen to the sage advice of McCartney’s mother and feel at ease with the world again.

Here are a few more words of wisdom I turn to in times of darkness:

And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good. - John Steinbeck

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. - Aesop’s Fables

Hard times require furious dancing. - Alice Walker

Don’t believe everything you think. - Anonymous

When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: You haven’t. - Thomas Edison

What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does. - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood. - Marie Curie

Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you’ll be criticized anyway. - Eleanor Roosevelt

No amount of guilt can change the past and no amount of anxiety can change the future. - Anonymous

You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. - Maya Angelou

These are just a few of the quotes that I’ve collected over the years to take solace in. There are many more on my Pinterest board titled, ‘Words’.

What words do you draw comfort from?

May your days be many and your troubles be few - Irish Blessing

Let it be.

*J, Eleanor's quote struck quite a chord with me today, thank you for sharing these words of wisdom. - M
